Lambda Responds to Increasing Demand for
Medically Rated Power Supplies
SAN DIEGO, CA (July 20, 2007) - Lambda has extended its popular NV-family of
configurable AC-DC power supplies to include a new range of models designed
specifically with medical applications in mind. With a reinforced 4kVac input to output
isolation, the units meet the rigorous IEC 60601 international safety standards for
medical equipment, making them suitable for use in patient-connected medical
applications. The NV-175M power supplies include PFC, efficiencies up to 90% and
output power ratings of up to 180-watts (200-watts peak).
 Four standard models are available for rapid delivery and many custom-configurations
can be built-to-order having 1 to 3 outputs with available output voltages of 3.3V, 5V,
12V, 15V and 24Vdc (adjustable to 28V). No minimum loads are required. The
operating input voltage range is from 90 to 264Vac, 45Hz to 63Hz. The NV-175M has
an optional temperature-controlled fan to ensure optimum cooling while achieving the
lowest possible audible noise performance. These compact supplies are approximately
1.3" high x 3" wide x 5" long (without cover or fan).
Despite the more substantial insulation requirements demanded by IEC 60601, these
extremely compact units are capable of fitting 1U enclosures. Worst-case leakage
current is impressive at less than 300ľA at 264Vac/63Hz making it suitable for
worldwide markets. Other compliances include RoHS, UL/IEC/CSA/EN60950-1 safety,
CE Mark, FCC Class-B, EN55011/EN55022 (radiated and conducted EMI) and
EN61000-3-2 harmonics and flicker specifications.
Lambda's NV-family employs patented Multi-Resonant Topology (MRT) to reduce
switching losses and heat generation. These medically approved versions achieve a
high power density of 9.3W/in3, while the MRT circuitry's soft-switching characteristics
play a role in ensuring that Class B EMC compliance is met.
