Lambda Adds Eight New Products to the Low Cost SWS Series
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 18, 2003 ) - Lambda has added eight new models to the SWS Series. Known for low
cost and high reliability the series now covers all the most popular output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V,
15V and 24V.

Until recently, light industrial equipment designers with medium production levels, have had a limited choice
of reliable power solutions. The only option for designers unable to justify a custom unit applicable to
their application, was an off the shelf product. High-grade industrial power supplies have been available,
but they come at a premium price. Budgets therefore usually dictate using a supply primarily designed for the
IT industry.
The AC input line quality in many industrial applications is poor. Heavy plant equipment causes the input
voltage to fluctuate and generates high voltage spikes. Such line transients or disturbances can drastically
reduce the life of many power supplies, designed for use in an office environment. High ambient temperatures
can also cause early failures.
"Lambda's SWS series of power supplies offers a new solution for these applications," says David Norton,
Director of Marketing for Lambda Americas. "At a low cost, this series still retains the specifications and
reliability needed for the industrial market."
Available in four power ratings, 50W, 75W, 100W, and 150W, the fully enclosed units not only carry CE (LVD),
UL, CSA and EN60950 safety agency logos, but are approved to the input surge requirements of EN50178. The
series also conforms to both the immunity standards of EN61000-4 and the EMC standards of EN55011-B, EN55022-B
and FCC-B.
All models meet EN61000-3-2, the 100W and 150W will be fitted with an integral active PFC filter. Other
features include a ±10% output adjustment, power good LED indicator and screw terminal connections.
The operating temperature range is from -10 to +60 degrees C or up to 70 degrees C with forced air-cooling.
Conservative derating characteristics ensure the internal components, particularly electrolytic capacitors,
operate at a reduced thermal stress. Reliability calculations based on the capacitor life indicate a
five-fold life expectancy over some low cost imports.
The new SWS models are available now, starting at $54 for single piece quantities.
For more than 50 years, Lambda has been a leading provider of standard and custom power supply solutions.
Lambda's broad range of products power industrial, telecommunications, datacom, medical, and test and
measurement applications worldwide.
